Tarteeb: A New Sound, A New Sequence, A New Orchestra

    Friday, November 5th, 2010

Tarteeb is a showcase of the wonderful nuances of eastern melody and rhythm in an orchestra setting.

    Thursday 11th Nov, Friday 12th Nov, Saturday 13th Nov 2010 | 8:00 pm

Composer and performer, Yousuf Kerai, has been a tabla player for over 10 years. Whilst completing his Master of Arts in Teaching Mathematics in the USA, he continued to refine his musical abilities by performing with both western and eastern musicians and composing music for theatre and dance. Tarteeb is his collaboration with tabla maestro, Ustad Khurshid Hussain (also his teacher), and sitar maestro, Sajid Hussain, to perform music that is grounded in eastern tradition, yet oriented towards a more global sound. Also performing with them are the next generation of young artistes; Ustad Khurshid Hussain’s son, Zoeb, on the tabla, Sajid Hussain’s son, Shehroze, on the sitar, and Gul Mohd Hussain on the sarangi.
